"Forever grateful to the Kilbryde Hospice"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as a relative),

My mother spent her final three weeks of life as an inpatient at the Kilbryde Hospice.

From the moment she entered, it was all systems go with regards to providing her with round-the-clock care. On day one, various different staff members came and introduced themselves to us all. From start to finish, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Though we were only associated with the Hospice for a matter of weeks, it felt like we had known the staff for years. The facilities themselves were second-to-none, with large, bright and well-equipped rooms with en-suites, TVs and patio doors which could be used to wheel a patient's bed outside on a nice day. There are many relatives' rooms with tea, coffee and endless biscuits, as well as a café. The Hospice has its own chef who takes pride in serving up lovely meals to the patients.

In terms of caring for my mother, the staff worked hard to make sure she was comfortable, from the administration of the right medicine, to constantly checking-up on her and making her physically comfortable and dignified. They are experts in pain management and I can certainly attest to this on behalf of my mother. Their teamwork was excellent and they were seamless in providing their care.

The Hospice were incredible in supporting us as a family. Again, early-on and throughout this difficult time we were advised of all of the various support services on offer. They could not do enough to make our time with our mother as nice as it could be - be it through providing us with bedding to spend the night with our mother, or keeping us fed and watered with refreshments.

We as a family were so impressed with how great a service the Hospice is, especially given that it was only opened to inpatients a number of months ago. We simply could not have provided that level of care for our mother by ourselves, and the Hospice alleviated that pressure from us, thus enabling us to make the most of our time with our loved one.

We are forever grateful to the Kilbryde Hospice and all of its amazing staff for helping us make the best of a bad situation. We look forward to staying connected and contributing to their fundraising efforts.

Dear RGF

Thank you for posting your experience of your mother's care at Kilbryde Hospice on Care Opinion. In my role as Clinical Services Manager I am very pleased to hear that your mother and your family were supported by all members of the Inpatient Unit team from day one. You mention that the hospice environment was well equipped with several spaces outwith your mothers room in which to relax. I will certainly pass this feedback onto our Board of Directors who spent many months/years planning our hospice to ensure the facilities were of the highest standard. This feedback will be of great reassurance to them that they have achieved what they set out to do.

You mention the simple things which were important during this time - like keeping you fed and watered and providing a comfortable bed to sleep in. It's important that we as a team support you emotionally and in keeping your strength up which I imagine was important to you while you continued to care for your mother.

This very positive story will be a great boost to our Inpatient unit staff, our fabulous catering team and all the staff who work behind the scenes to keep the services going. As a new establishment, just 8 months since our opening date, it is very reassuring to have your feedback on our teamwork. To hear that you were made aware of all support services available and that these were available to you and the extended family must have been a help to you. This support continues to be available to you in the coming months and years should you or any of the family require it.

RGF I will feed ensure that all the team are made aware of your lovely feedback. This will be of immense benefit to them as we approach our nine month anniversary.

We look forward to you keeping connected with us in the future and wish you luck with any fundraising ventures.

Take care

Kind regards

Margaret Mary Cowan

Clinical Services Manager
