"What about my time?"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

So the appointment I had today was scheduled for 3: 10.   It’s now 4pm and I’ve not been called back.   This appointment was cancelled twice (by yourselves) and rebooked for today.   Why do you book appointments that you can’t honour?   The waiting room holds 30 people, and every seat is full, and there’s a queue of people sitting on the floor as well.   There was over 50 people waiting here.   Now I know that there are 2 other departments using these chairs, but seriously? ?   It’s been like this every single time.   You send me texts telling me it costs the NHS £145 for a missed appointment, but what about my time?   How many times do I need my vision checked when I come in?   I don’t usually complain about the services I receive from the NHS but this department is truly ridiculous.

Hi Frustrated in Fife,

Thank you for taking time to comment about your experience at the Queen Margaret Hospital especially the eye outpatient department. Im very sorry that you had a long time to wait at the clinic and that there was an obvious problem with seating capacity. You are absolutely correct, there are another two departments using that waiting room. We are aware of the problems that this is causing, and agree this is very frustrating for patients. We are planning, with the eye consultant concerned and managers to explore further accommodation which should provide the eye department staff the resources to cope with the high volume of patients that are required to be seen.
