"I am eternally thankful and grateful"

About: Telford STaRS

(as a service user),

From an X-service user with Portico House Wellington in 2008 I feel that the process has been far too long. After being assigned a key worker in January I thought I would have had an alcohol detox within a month and was given false hope, on three occasions. I am not going to put my key worker down for this but do believe they should be honest and realistic. As a worker I was feeding back to my employer that I would be back to work at a particular week and had to let them down.

On a positive note, my assigned nurse at STARS (Julie) has been absolutely instrumental to my detox. When seeing doctor she made sure all my observations from blood tests, history and all risk assessments and relevant paperwork was on hand for the doctor. I started my home detox 5 days later. She came to my house every day and made sure my wife was ok with how things were going. She showed a massive duty of care, dignity and respect at all times. I am eternally thankful and grateful!!!

Thank you for your kind thoughts about your experience of Julie and her active and professional care in supporting you with your detoxification. I was sorry to hear about the delay and the information you received which meant that alterations needed to be made with regard to the timing of the detoxification. I will raise this with Colleagues here about the need to ensure preparation for detoxification along with clear time frames which are realistic. We are keen to ensure people receive the best care possible – if you would like to contact me and discuss this, it would be welcomed, my email address is Barbara.Jones@mpft.nhs.uk

I wish you well in your recovery

Best wishes

Barbara
