I decided primarily because I was feeling stressed and not seeing a necessity to be in hospital waiting for a procedure 2 days hence, when I could be at home and come in as an out patient for it, to discharge myself .I ended up in a scenario based upon the views of 2 nurses that I could not discharge myself and when I had dressed and was ready to go various ploys to stop me. the Doctor had to sign me out which I understood but there was no Doctor present. then when one arrived and signed me out after rightly expressing his medical opinion I could not get the catheter removed from my arm sset off with it still in pursued down the corridor into the lift by
Doctor AND 2 Nurses.I pointed out I had every right to leave and was happy to return on Monday for the procedure but did not want stay in the hospital fo 2 days staring at the walls .It was suggested by one of the nurses or assistant nurses that as I am old I was demented and rambling which helped and at some point security appeared. All I wanted to do was go home and of course I did but I was surprised that this right seems not to be understood. Several people visiting the hospital came to my support and were not impressed by the bullying attitude of the 2 assistant nurses nor the presence of security men.
