"9 months waiting for treatment after heart attack"

About: Royal Derby Hospital / Cardiology

On July 25th 2018, when on holiday in Cornwall,

I suffered a heart attack ( myocardial infarction ). I was rushed into emergency surgery hospital in Plymouth for an angioplasty and had a stent fitted. The excellent consultant who saved my life told me I needed further urgent surgery to fix the part of my heart still damaged- but it would have to be performed in Derby/Nottingham- either more stents or a more long term fix of a heart bypass operation.Since then I have been off work. After 3 months of both myself and my GP in Derby hearing nothing I finally gained a meeting with the Cardio team in the Royal Derby and was told I'd need an MRI scan referral to Nottingham City to assess my condition with a view to moving forward with a treatment plan. After a month of again hearing nothing I called the City in Nottingham to find out they had NOT received the referral from Derby. Apparently there was a server issue that day so the email had not been sent ( if I had not called nobody would of known it was missing and I would still be waiting ! ) The Royal Derby team re-sent the referral and I checked with Notts that they had it. Eventually- exactly 6 months to the day after my attack- January 25th I had my MRI scan in Notts. Since then I have heard nothing- no phone call, email or letter. Rather frustrated and somewhat angry I contacted Nottingham City who told me that I that they had forwarded the MRI results to the Cardiology team in Derby in early February 2019.This was in March that I asked- I have heard nothing since. Four weeks ago I saw my GP who stated he would write to the Cardio Team to find out when I was likely to get a treatment plan- We are still waiting to hear. On April 1st so I took it upon myself to walk into the Cardio area in the Derby Royal to try to find out what was going on. The consultant was not there but the Nursing Staff helped in finding out what was on my record- Apparently the scan results Notts had informed me they had forwarded in Feb had only just been confirmed on March 25th as being accepted !....The time in these matters was about right apparently, and a wait such as mine for the scan results and follow up consultancy was normal !

I was informed that a note was going to be passed to the consultancy team to state that I been there asking and that I was not happy.I am 53 yrs of age- working ( 35yrs ) father of four-previously fit and well. The pains that I have trouble me and I have to use my DTN spray regularly to control the way that I feel. I cannot walk more that 10 mins before being out of breath- my energy is almost non-existent, and I am constantly fatigued. To say my quality of life is poor seems to light to me.Am I to manage on my medicine tablets indefinitely ?..The sick pay I get runs to half my wage at 12 months off- that is a real concern to us as a family..After nearly 9 months since the occasion I have yet to see a Consultant or gain any idea of when anything will be done to help me. I need treatment
