"Bowel Cancer Diagnosis & referral process"

About: Leigh Infirmary / Colorectal surgery Thomas Linacre Outpatient Centre

(as the patient),

I visited my GP Dr Pal in Ashton-in-Makerfield late March with some concerns about my health. The locum GP put me on a 2 week referral to Wigan and Leigh hospital. He ordered bloods to be taken, which I went for straight away to The Thomas Linacre Centre. I didn’t have to wait long to have my bloods taken and the staff were lovely. The receptionist from my GP then phoned me an hour or 2 later to say my referral had gone through and I was to pick up my letter. I contacted the number given on the Monday and they were still awaiting a decision on the next stage. I rang back the following day and they offered me a colonoscopy. I asked if they had an earlier slot and they managed to fit me in early April. My prescription was ready to pick up from the hospital. Within 1 week I have an appointment and the NHS have been amazing.

Thank you for your kind comments in respect of your referral to the Trust and the treatment you received. It was pleasing to note how quickly you were seen to have your bloods taken. I also note how promptly your colonoscopy was carried out and that you received an appointment soon after. I will ensure that this posting is shared accordingly. Again thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
