My partner and I attended the hospital on Thursday 28th March for our 12 week scan. However, it soon became evident in the appointment that something had gone wrong. Unfortunately the baby had no heartbeat, and had stopped developing at just short of 11 weeks. From the moment we were given this naturally heartbreaking news the staff at the hospital could not have been more amazing. We were taken up to the women’s unit to take about our next options and although my partner and I were extremely distressed the staff that saw us were incredible and so supportive. We then returned home and I was able to contact the lady who we had seen who offered further suppor and advice over the phone. Following this we had to return the next day for a follow up appointment, again this was extremely distressing due to the rawness of the day before however again I saw the same familiar face as the day before in the women’s unit and she did everything she possibly could to comfort me and my partner through what was a really traumatic time for us. I then returned to the hospital on Monday 1st April for a ERPC, and spent the day in the care of the theatre staff. I was extremely apprehensive about the surgery as it was my first experience of it, but the staff truly did everything they could to reassure me and care for me. They were with me from 11am when I got to the hospital and I received around the clock care before I was discharged at 5pm. There was a particular lady in theatre who was so lovely to me but also to my family who unfortunately couldn’t be with me for any of the day due to me being on the theatre ward. She kept them updated as regularly as she could and was just truly lovely. Whilst this has been a truly terrible time for me and my partner we both could not be more grateful or thankful for the amazing care we have received from everyone that we have directly come across at Scarborough Hospital. Thank you so much,
