"I shouldn't have to chase the hospital for appointments"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

(as a carer),

my wife is ill so i have to deal with all appointments and her medications im her full time carer

my wife has some antibiotics that she has prescribed by hospital (was told i cant get them from doctors)

i have just noticed that i have 2 weeks worth left and i have not been given another appointment for her  so  i phoned the hospital  to find out whats going on   to find out the doctor that was dealing with her has left  and no appointments have been put in place or anything was told by receptionist  we are a bit behind and a doctor has stepped in to help out  this should have nothing to do we me this stuff should be in place

i  have an appointment now in 2 weeks

the thing is with this is i shouldn't have to chase the hospital for appointments

they should be in place  now i have found out the the medication is going to run out before her appointment  so im chasing  stuff again  this is not the first time this has happend i have spoken to other people that have had to do the same chase chase chase  they need to get their act together

I was sorry to read of your experience with the Trust, and the difficulty that you have been having with getting hospital appointments for your wife. It is difficult to address this on the website, but if you have not already done so please contact the Trust via the PALS service on 01983 534850, and they will put you in touch with senior staff to assist you.

I have been in touch with PALS and they have been helpful but I am still putting in complaint as this should not happen to anybody

Dear gocaster,

I am glad that PALS have been helpful, and I hope that they have been able to progress things for you and your wife.

Of course we want to learn from your poor experience so this does not happen again. The Trust will ensure that your complaint is managed appropriately when received.

this morning ive just received a text on wife's phone to say she has an appointment tomorrow at 1pm the appointment was cancelled for next week should the admin not have phone us as its short notice my wife has a form of dementia due to her illness its only that she said something going funny with phone that I saw the message we would have missed the appointment looks like people trying to cover mistakes as wife pills would have run out if it wasn't for PAL's lady running around and getting prescription in place so I could pick up pills I would have run out now I have had a trip to Newport for nothing as I could get the prescription when the wife has appointment tomorrow
