I was admitted in the Maternity Unit for an induction as I was with pre-eclampsia. I did not get into labour after the medication and was told they would need to break my waters to start labour. However, due to a lack of beds in the Labour Ward, I had to wait for a vacant room to be able to start the process. Astonishingly, it did take 4 days for a vacant bed. I slept for 4 days in a shared room (with other 7 pregnant women in labour). I had to hear the painful noises and have little privacy for 4 nights. My husband only had a chair to stay - so at some point I've sent him to sleep home. Every day I was told I was going to be the next one but then someone in more urgent need arrived and there were not enough midwifes to attend more labour women. I live 5 minutes away from the hospital and they refused to discharge me too. Throughout those 4 days I've been in contact with some brilliant midwifes but also with some terrible ones. There was a huge lack of empathy and none seemed too bother with my situation. I definitely do not recommend the Maternity Unit at Croydon Hospital to any expectant mother.
