I didn't have a very good experience unfortunately. I know they are rushed, stretched etc, but the communication between their different surgeons and doctors needs really to be improved.
I was referred by my GP for removal of sentient tags that swell and hurt. I was told by the admitting doctor they would be removed along with a possible fistula, then when the letter came for the OP it said they would be "examined" which was confusing.
I then had a sigmoidoscopy in preparation for the OP and polyp was found and removed, at that time I was seen by the endoscopist and the consulting surgeon and was told by the consulting surgeon that I had no fistular or fissure, when I asked about the tags removal I was reassured by the endoscopist that when I came in for the OP they would be removed.
I then had a full Endoscopy which showed no more polyps and the very nice female doctor who did that told me they would be able to remove the tags if they bothered me as I was already scheduled for that OP.
I went in today for the OP and was seen by a completely different surgeon who told me what I was describing sounded like a fistular or fissure so they would examine me for that but they would not remove the tags as it would not be necessary.
There didn't seem to be any notes from the consulting surgeon on what he had already told me ie no fistular or fissure, no notes I could see from my doctor as to why Id been referred in the first place.
I didn't know what to do because they wanted to give me GA for an examination to remove a possible fistular or fissure when Id already been told I didn't have one. and that they would not remove that tags as it wasn't serious.
I know its not life threatening but it bothers me on a daily basis and affects my quality of life.
I felt really upset and confused, I didn't want to have a general anaesthetic and stay in hospital over night just for another examination I didn't need without having the tags removed.
I just discharged myself and came home and cried, feeling very depressed.
Im sure they do their best, but really this could have been avoided if the consulting surgeon had just made some clear notes.
