"Gynae Day Surgery - ran like clockwork!"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery Queen Margaret Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Was first diagnosed with a rectocele prolapse after the birth of my son and attended the pelvic physiotherapist at QMH.  After a few appointments with Kate I was referred to Gynaecology and seen the nurse (Michelle I believe) who was looking at getting me set up with a pessary.  On examination, I was told of the possibility that it was in fact a cyst and not a prolapse and then sent to the consultant Dr Carolyn.  They confirmed it was a Gartners cyst and that I could have surgery to remove it.  I opted for this and there was talk of coming in in the next two weeks for it.  I refused this simply down to it being right before Christmas.  It was then quite early into the new year when I was phoned and told I could have surgery in three weeks.  I came in for the surgery in early Feb '19 and from the moment I was admitted I felt very well looked after.  I was scheduled to be first for surgery however was bumped to second for a patient who had been waiting a week for her surgery.  This was totally fine and communicated to me well.  From the nurses to the anaesthesiologist to the consultants, I was well looked after.  I was very impressed with the efficiency and organisation involved with running the wards and operating theatre.  It all sort of ran like clockwork!  The anaesthesiologist (sadly can't remember her name) was lovely and spoke to me throughout the preparation for surgery, putting me at complete ease.  The surgery was longer than expected and it was a larger cut that expected, but otherwise it was successful and the cyst was removed.  I was in a bit of pain when I came round from the anaesthetic and was instantly looked after and given some pain relief.  On return to the ward again I was looked after fantastically.  I was the last person to be discharged from the ward I was in due to having a pack in for 4/5 hours.  On discharge, I was given all the information I could possibly need and given a Fit for Work note for my work.

Overall, it was a really pleasant experience and I was thoroughly impressed with the care and every one of the staff who took care of me.  Thank you all.
