"One stop shop approach"

About: East Ayrshire Community Hospital / Physiotherapy East Ayrshire Community Hospital / Rehabilitation Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as a service user),

I was referred to this group by my GP as I have long term conditions that limit my mobility.  I was initially hesitant about what would happen at this group as this was my first time attending the day hospital.  There has been a stigma about day hospitals being for elderly people who need services and I didn't think I fitted this category. I was really surprised when I attended and found that it provided access to a number of professionals who all delivered an excellent service. Individually these were;

The driver of the ambulance and the care assistant who ensured we were all safely picked up and taken to and from the hospital.

Physiotherapists who assessed individuals, advised exercises and provided mobility aids where required.

Nurses who did health checks including blood pressure and who also gave time to discuss how your health condition affected you. Really appreciated at a time whe access to GPS is so difficult.

OTs who discussed how your condition affected you and whether they could provide aids to help in the home.

All in I was really impressed by this one stop shop approach. I think it is an excellent resource and one that could be expanded to provide a service for a number of long term conditions.

Dear Junegg,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us all on CareOpinion. Your story is lovely and I am so pleased with the experience you have received and talked about. It is not an easy thing to try something that you feel maybe not right for you and to overcome stigma and put yourself out there. You made a bold move and I applaud you for it. I just hope that your story is shared by the boards that are fully responsible for this day hospital/group to try and encourage others that may be in a similar position to where you found yourself.

Thanks so much for your kind words about our crew also. It is lovely to read.

I wish you all the very best.

Kind Regards

Alan
