"Having an endoscopy"

About: The Yorkshire Clinic

(as the patient),

I went for an endoscopy.  Looking at the video about how to give feedback, I can confirm the staff were nice and everything was clean and I've no reason to doubt the treatment was good.

But
I warned my GP I didn't think I could cope with this treatment.  I refused sedation because past experience tells me this is what's done to you when the treatment is unbearable but the hospital doesn't want you to struggle.  Eventually I was persuaded the problem could be life threatening and I had no other option.  Preparing to go cost me a lot of lost sleep and worry.  Before I went in for my endoscopy I could hear the patient before me choking and struggling too - I should have walked away at that point.  struggle to believe this treatment is given to any human being without putting them to sleep.  I don't have words to describe how unpleasant it is - it is simply horrendous and nothing I would want to put anyone though.
The reasons for doing it may be good (and I signed the form to say go ahead) and the staff present try to be supportive - but this doesn't lessen the impact of this intolerable procedure on the patient.
I've nothing against the staff present - they looked horrified at the end of it too.  But no-one should be put through that experience.
I won't be coming back for another.  Does it being so awful not simply put people off coming back to have the check done again when they should?
