I have been attending an oupatients clinic at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital for several months. Every time I am there, I hear music and friendly voices through speakers in the waiting area. Eventually I realised I was listening to Radio Royal.
It's a volunteer radio station based at the hospital. At these times I have been nervous and scared about what was happening to my body. You have no idea how listening to music and hearing the warm voices of the DJs has been so soothing for me. While I have been waiting for my appointments, I've learned a lot about the other services available in the hospital, like the Spiritual Care Centre and the RVS cafe. I wouldn't have known they were there unless I'd heard it on Radio Royal.
More recently, I was admitted to hospital for surgery. Thanks to the hospital WiFi I could lay in my bed, drown out the sound of the hospital and listen to Radio Royal. It felt very special because it's in the hospital too. One evening some people from the radio station came to my ward and talked to patients and wrote down their favourite music choices to play on the radio. They were lovely. Some were young people and some were my age but they were all so nice.
I want to say thank you to all the people at Radio Royal. You made such a difference to me at a very difficult time in my life.
