"Disappointing lack of communication"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

Visited A& E at Blackpool Victoria as my relative has acute urine retention, a catheter was fitted and we was told  they had been referred to the urology department for investigations. Three days later he was in agony, went back to BVH who told him to take antihistamines and it will go away. Two further days later, I rang urology to find out when the appointment would be to be informed no referral had ever been sent. Contacted the GP surgery who advised that this should have been done by A& E and it isn't really there problem. Asked to contact the district nurses who kindly advised that we needed to go back to A& E for a further assessment due to increased pain and swelling. Very disappointing and a lack of communication.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear about your relatives condition and that the referral was not made for him to receive swift treatment at our hospital. This is not the standard we would expect and it would be helpful if you could contact our department with further details so that we can look into this for you immediately.

Please can you contact a member of my team on 01253 955588 or e-mail: bfwh.patientexperience@nhs.net.

Kind regards

Eleanor
