"EPEC being a parent course"

About: Summer House Children's centre

(as a service user),

I attended the training to be a 'being a parent' course leader.

It gave me so many new skills and tools to help me with my toddler and for the future. I even made changes I hadn't even considered being a potential issue for the future until attending the course. I have since facilitated a course myself and really enjoyed not only sharing the course content but being able to give real experiences of how it's helped me and my family.

HI Epecleader

When we embarked on this journey to role out the EPEC (Empowering Parents Empowering Communities) project in March 2018 we had a fair idea about the projects main aims which were to help spread the latest evidenced based parenting messages to a wider audience within our communities delivered by parents for parents.

What we didnt anticipate were all the unintended outcomes as it were, in terms of improving volunteers confidence and self-esteem, helping them to gain the skills needed to change career or start a career in family support/social work, making new friends and become better parents themselves. so for us these really add value to the project.

You have highlighted these unintended outcomes within your story so thanks for sharing.

The challenge for us now is to keep you motivated, keep you engaged with the programme and keep your skills fresh so you can go on and deliver further courses within your local children's centre.

We have loads of ideas for us to be able to do this and hope you will continue your EPEC journey with us.

thanks again for posting your story.
