"Breast Cancer Diagnosis"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre Community/District Nursing Service / Community Nursing - East Ayrshire University Hospital Ayr / Clinical Oncology

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with an agressive form of Breast Cancer in July 2018. I was only 34 with 3 young kids and was absolutely terrified. I genuinely believed it was the end for me.

From start to finish the care I recieved from my Breast Care Nurse Linda and my surgeon Dr Battachayra was phenomenal. Any concern I had they took the time to fully explain. I was supported by Linda all the way through my treatment and honestly dont think I couldve done it without her. Her support from appointments, to phone calls and booklets really went above and beyond what i expected. I struggled through chemo but the support from Linda kept me going. I could see how much she genuinely cared, it stood out a mile even though she was a very busy woman. I have never met as nice a person or nurse. Thanks to her I completed all treatment in January this year.

I also would like to mention the support I had weekly from my community nurse Janice who visited me weekly for my pikk line care. Not only did she look after my pikk line but she supported me mentally every week going through chemo when I was at my very lowest. I always felt so much better after she visited my home.

I certainly will never forget the support I received from these people and feel I owe them the world. Thanks to them my life is now returning to normal :-)

Dear LBlack84

Thank you so much for taking the time to give such positive feedback on your experience and the care you received.

It must have been an extremely worrying time for you and your family but thankfully the staff were able to support you during this difficult time.

I am delighted that life is now returning to normal.

Best wishes for the future.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Lblack84,

Like Elaine, I would like to thank you for taking the time to share this with us. I can only imagine how horrible this time must have been for you and your family. It really is heart warming to hear that your care was so good. I passed your post to everyone involved in your care and I am sure, they too, must have been delighted to read your post. To hear "I certainly will never forget the support I received from these people and feel I owe them the world" is such a lovely accolade to the teams.

Your post generated the much coveted 'owl award'. The certificate and the badge below went 'winging' its way to Linda and Dr Bhattachayra. Image title

If you would like to let me know more information to enable me to identify and send one to Janice, please drop me a line to Eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and let me know Janice's second name (if you know it). Alternatively, if you tell me your name address and CHI number (or date of birth), then the team leader will be able to identify her.

I am also delighted your life is returning to normal too.

Best wishes,

Eunice
