"Good and bad maternity care"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I've gave birth to my daughter here in 2016 and I was very pleased with the staff members in general and hospital.

Had a few moments of stress and it was my first pregnancy and didn't knew what was to happen and midwife didn't really took her time to guide me for the next step. She also left the ward and left the training midwife with me, which she was amazing!

I had a very fast delivery and when I asked my husband to go look for the midwife to tell her the baby is coming, she nagged and said its not true without checking, and I started to be insistent and the training midwife checked and she was in shock and she was able to see the head of the baby.

I didn't need any painkillers other than gas (I wasn't even aware I could ask for some as my midwife in change before the labour didn't said anything about this or even that I can make a birth plan) but all went well. I needed some stitches tho and I was able to feel ever move with the needle but the midwife tried to deny and also asked me to stop taking the gas.. Which was the only think actually taking my pain away.

Can't tell she was rude or so but some of her answers were very off..

I was taking care of pretty good after the birth and had been explained what happens next and such.

Next morning one of the nurses came to wake me up for some painkillers and she was staring off and saying "I was trying to wake you up for a while now!" In a VERY rude way as if I didn't experience one of the most painful times of a human's life a few hours ago and I didn't had the right to be exhausted and sleep.

Same nurse told me she will discharge me in an hour because everything is fine and I don't need to stay in the hospital. That was at 3PM. At 5PM my husband went to ask what is happening, she said again she willing work right away to discharge me. (The place was so quiet and she actually did discharged all the mothers in our ward except me and one more mom who actually was staying there due to complications)

At 8PM! My husband went again and asked if I will really go home today because everyone is gone for hours already except us. She only Then!! Opened some files and started to write in them and 30 minutes later she handed over telling we can go.

Apart from this(which for many may sound silly to think as negative, for me it was enough) the experience was fairly good and would recommend the hospital.

But not the lady who came home to visit me the day after. She was late and no calling to let us know and very rude and pushy. I told her I feel comfortable only in a few positions breastfeed my baby and she went crazy telling me to stand up and do it "properly", not before she saw the baby sleeping nicely and with the dummy near her and literally took the dummy and throw it away! And some other comments without meaning..

Dear Mmf,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am sorry to hear of some of the difficulties you mentioned. That said, I am glad to hear that you would still recommend our hospital. We are always trying to improve the experience of our patients and I will share your feedback with the team to facilitate this.

I hope that you and your daughter are doing well.

Best wishes,
