"I stay only because I'm in the catchment area."

About: Western Avenue Surgery

I woke up one day with a really strong tinnitus in my right ear. I do not go to the swimming pool or else, so very strange. Just appeared one day with the other. Got an appointment with the nurse, who said there is no wax buildup, so they took a swab to send for analysis (could be an ear infection?). Poked at my eardrum while taking the swab, extremely painful and made my tinnitus worse! Took 2 weeks for the results to arrive. Called the surgery many times during the reception hours. Every time had to call several times in a row, about 7 or 8 times, before someone picked up the phone (And I'll repeat, this is during the hours that the phone lines are open according to their website). The receptionist asked for my details to access the database with my test results, and said "so you had a blood test?" (clearly didn't listen when I said I had a ear swab, also are you even looking at my database, I didn't do any blood test). Also, they got my records completely mixed up with other people's, they have me down for a chlamydia test in 1994: at the time I was 2 years old and living in Italy! Get your files in order, this is embarrassing.

I've also been here for a smear tests a few months ago, arrived on time for my appointment but I was received with 1 and a half hour delay! No apology or explanation given.

The nurse and doctors are okay most of the times, but the receptionists are the rudest and could not care less.

I am staying because you are the only surgery in my catchment area.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear that you were not happy with your interaction with our nurse and receptionists. We work hard to deliver a high standard of care to our patients.

On discussing the issues you raised the computer entry shows that you had waited 32 minutes after your appointment time to see the nurse.

We use these comments to reflect on staff communication skills. If there are specific points you would like to discuss please contact our practice manager, as we treat your feedback seriously and use it as a use learning exercise, aiming for a constructive outcome.
