Our daughter has been involved with Speech Therapy from a very young age. It started due to chewing and swallowing problems which continues but not to the severe degree it once was. On top of that our daughter had no verbal speech and was not understood in anything she tried to communicate. As parents we felt helpless and tried everything we could to help her and try to understand what she was going through. We needed some professional input. Speech Therapy have been absolutely faultless, dedicated and have offered continued advice in both fields.
Our daughter is now 5. Although she is not understood much outside her immediate family unit. Her immediate family can understand her. Speech Therapy implemented different tactics such as PECKS (visual cards/pictures). Offered continued advice. Introduced Cued Articulation which is similar to sign language but is used for children/adults who can not produced phonological sounds. This has helped hugely as it is a visual which prompts her to remember that there needs to be an ending at the end of each word. This massively makes a difference. Although she is no where near perfect yet and a lot of the correct sounds, endings or beginnings of words she can still not produce. She is now greatly understood within her immediate family. Speech Therapy offered continued drilling and repetitive work weekly over the years in blocks and this together with us as parents repeating the same work in session at home has made an absolute difference. The Speech Therapist we had from the start still continues her work with our daughter and is the reason I am writing this review today. She has been a huge part of our daughters current progress and will be forever grateful.
