"Doctors pleased"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care

(as a service user),

Was drooling out of the left side of my mouth ans slurring words. Went to the GP and was referred to Crosshouse for further assessment.  Pre assessed at reception and moved to Acute Stroke Unit where I had much measurement and assessment - all the usual BP, temperature, pulse then breathing , eyesight, relfexes checked.  Put on a drip, heparin injection and then peaceful night other than routine disturbance by the doctors and nurses.  Sip test 1st thing this morning - passed - so breakfast and drink.  Following a shower, chest xray, heart scan, neck scan, ecd and all the previous again.
Doctors pleased so hope home tonight.

Dear caringmy75,

What a frightening experience for you to develop stroke symptoms and subsequently admitted to the stroke unit. Early assessment and treatment is essential for best outcome and it is great to hear that this hapenned.

After stroke symptoms it is important that a formal swallow assessment is undertaken to ensure it is safe to take food and drink orally. I am glad you passed this and managed breakfast.

I am delighted your rapid treatment allowed you to recover and get home. Your detailed care opinion will be appreciated by all of the team. Thanks for taking the time to post on care opinion.

I hope you are now recovering well at home.

Best wishes,

Christine
