(as a service user),

After going through with a lot of questions to make sure they had the up to date information and taking all the required tests i.e. blood pressure, weight, etc. I saw the surgeon who carried out the surgery he informed me of all my options explained both good and bad that could happen. When she was sure that I had understood all, she asked me if I wanted to go through with the operation,  I said yes & had to sign the form accordingly.

After surgery, in recovery ward I saw the surgeon and at the end I was informed that providing I can carry out the two required tests I could go home. Unfortunately I could only partially carry out the tests which would have meant staying in overnight but knowing that I was a carer the surgeon and nursing staff put their head together and managed to find a way for me to get home although a bit later but on the same day.

Hello Johnboy81 - thank you for sharing your story and I am glad the teams were able to sort you out to go home.

We have been doing a great deal of work around caring for carers and recognising the importance of the role so it was good to see the teams demonstrating this. That said I will probably say wheat they were saying too - that its important for you to look after yourself too....

I am sure you are already aware but if you need any help or support in your caring role then there are a lot of ways we and others can help you; just let us know.

Thank you for your reply.

I'll be the first to admit that following rules are not my strong point, howerver I try to listen to my body and as long it says that I can do it I abide by it. By the same token if it tells me to take it easy I'll follow that as well. When I got home feeling fit got on with the household chores being main carer to my wife. Since than I have took the dog for a 2 mile walk in the fields and again a few hours later doing at least a 4 mile walk per day, The rest of the day I get on with the chores. I am happy to report I've got stronger day by day.
