"They have had no help"

About: Leeds / Leeds Social Services

(as a relative),

My parents are severely disabled. My mum suffers from Osteoarthritis and my dad has bad COPD and mental health issues due to caring full time for my mum. They have continually been dismissed by Leeds City Council Adult Social Care Team stating they cannot have support as my brother who lives with them should be a full time carer for them instead of them doing a proper assessment.

My mum receives some hours with a personal assistant and they get a cleaner that comes round but does not get anything else. My mum is having to cook my dad meals which is causing harm to her. They have had no help and this needs to change.

Dear Horne735, I am very sorry to read about the difficulties your parents are experiencing. If you would like to discuss this with me please do feel free to call me on 0113 3783080. I can also be contacted at complaints.socs@leeds.gov.uk and upon receipt of your parents' details I shall make sure their situation is investigated further.

Best wishes, Dominic Wyatt.

Update posted by Horne735 (a relative)

Hi.

I emailed the address given and got a reply saying could take until 14 February 2019 to respond. Someone from Leeds City Council rung them and said they would be allocated a social worker. My mum said specifically that she will not be able to get to phone due to her disability and for someone to leave message and they didn't. They just rung off and when my mum tried to ring back it was message to say they couldn't do anything. This was after 5pm and the offices close at 4pm.

Could someone tell me why nobody has done anything when there is a legal obligation?

I have contacted you privately. A social worker shall carry out an assessment and offer a carer's assessment, and the allocation of a social worker shall be made at the very earliest opportunity.

Best wishes, Dominic Wyatt.
