Recently a relative spent some time in ward 12 hairmyres hospital. What was noticed was there seemed to be no basic nursing care in this unit. The Nursing staff I saw seem to spend time around desk. Whilst my relative was in this ward on oxygen there were no mouth care trays and every time we visited which was most days our relatives mouth was in a mess due to oxygen therapy. There was the exception of two staff nurses otherwise nursing staff we came across were very unhelpful. Also our relative would have only received assistance to feed when family in attendance as they were unable to manage this basic need. Staff in this ward need to remember these patients are someone's loved relative.
