"My Suggestions"

About: CAMHS Developmental Disorder (Northampton) / Fern

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

The food can be disgusting at times because sometimes it's not edible because sometimes it's hard and sometimes you can find hair in your food but we haven't seen that for ages.

My bedroom is alright. I don't think I've got any problems with my bedroom, it's my safe place basically.

One of the shifts - they left me to head bang and I sat crying. They leave my constant observations all the time. On the other shift the staff help me. If they think that you're a risk to yourself they strip your room but they put it away safe, like in my bathroom.

The ward could do with redecorating, like painting the walls and ceiling. We could have a football goal painted on the wall in the courtyard, although we do have a basket net.  I think we should be able to paint our bedroom walls any colour although we can have our own posters on the wall anyway. We could do with a patient coat hanger in the corridor.

I would recommend St Andrew's because they have helped me through my bad times. When I first came I was a danger to myself and others but now I’m getting better. If someone was poorly at home I would recommend it to them.

Response from Anne McLean

Thanks for your very helpful feedback. We’re very sorry you found a hair in your food. That should never happen and we will make sure all staff remember to wear hair nets when serving meals. It’s a good idea to be able to choose the colour you have on your bedroom walls and we will try to make sure this happens in future.

We always try to work with young people to find the best ways to support them when they are struggling and I’m sorry if you were left to head bang. This shouldn’t happen and we will talk to staff about this.

I’m really pleased that despite the things you’ve mentioned you would recommend St Andrews because you feel we’ve helped you through difficult times. Many thanks for your feedback.
