"nurse and healthcare assistant"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I was brought in by ambulance to accident and emergency in may. I was very unwell and loosing a lot of blood. A few people had tried to take my blood and to put a tube in my arm should i require a blood transfusion. When I was taken into a stretcher room a health care assistant called lucy came to take my blood, she was very professional and put me at ease, thankfully she succeeded in taking the blood and inserting the tube. Lucy and nurse Sophie cared for me during my time on accident and emergency, they are a testament to how wonderful emergency staff are, although the department was extremely busy they took time to calm me down as I was extremely worried.

There was an aggressive patient within the department that day, Sophie and Lucy were also caring for this patient, Lucy remained calm even through verbal abuse and threats, she managed to calm them to sleep.

I have been to accident emergency many times but this episode sticks in my mind as the staff were so professional and competent in all aspects of my needs.

Well done!
