"Visit to clinic"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Trauma & Orthopaedics (Wards 1 & 5)

(as a service user),

I visited the orthopaedic clinic in hairmyres hospital with my son today. He had an accident at work which damaged his hand. We had to wait quite some time to be seen but I could see that it was busy. We were seen by a nurse with red hair, her name was Gill. She greeted us with a bright smile, introduced herself and apologised for our wait. My son was really nervous, gill explained to him exactly what she was going to do before she did it and really helped to put him at ease. When she took his bandage off my son totally freaked out. Gill handled him beautifully, she gave him reassurance but was firm at the same time. It was exactly what he needed. She calmed him right down and gained his trust. My son is a bit of a wimp and I struggle to keep him calm when he’s upset, to see this nurse calm him down in just a few minutes was truly remarkable. I just had to take the time to share my thoughts with you. Although I stopped to thank her on the way out, I wanted to show my appreciation for this truly remarkable nurse and say thanks again for what she did for my son.

Dear Thankfulmum,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post the lovely feedback above. I will be sure to share it with Gill who I know will be delighted to learn that you she had such a positive impact on your son. I hope he continues to heal well.

All the best,

Cameron
