"Chronic pain"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Gastroenterology University Hospital Ayr / Neurology University Hospital Ayr / Pain management

(as the patient),

I apologise for any grammatical mistakes, I have health problems that make things a little more complicated for me to write etc.

I have had chronic pain for over 4 years now and during that time have been referred to Ayr hospital, after waiting over 6months to a year for some appointments the treatment their after has been more that unsatisfying.

At the first negative appointment, when I walked in the doctor was still reading my notes.  The doctor looked up and said to me it’s IBS, they’ve seen 6 people like me today and it’s IBS. This was before even conducting any tests.

Then I was referred to a neurologist by my GP.i has a brain scan which I have never seen and  answers were well no answers and after being referred a second time by my GP to check my lover back nerves and for MS, after a lot of reluctance they agreed to do a brain scan which I have never seen. I received a letter that was extremely negative said that there was no evidence of MS saying they told me this would be the case and to not send me for more tests.

Last but not least I was in hospital for a suspected blood clot movement and I was given a cannula drip when the nurse put it in I had a really sharp pain In my arm and since then I feel like my veins are ripping and have constant pain in my fingers.

I have also been suffering from other issues, one of which I feel has worsened in my arm since I had the drip in.

I am really struggling day to day not being able to leave the house most days and in pain every day.

I went for help and feel they had no time for me. This has been worsened by the care at Ayr Hospital and I don’t know what to do.

I’m also worried about the movement in my arm not getting better, I need the use of both of my hands for my work.

Dear Red window

Thank you for sharing your post on the Care Opinion site.

Firstly I would like to apologise for the less than satisfactory experiences within Ayr Hospital. It certainly sounds like the care we provided on each of your visits fell short of the standards we aim to achieve.

I would like to look into your concerns and would welcome an opportunity to discuss these with you so that I can also raise them with the teams involved.

I would be grateful if you would contact my PA, Ms Tracy Scott, who will arrange to discuss your situation with me. Tracy can be contacted on: tel 01292 617126 or e-mail tracy.scott@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Kind regards

John

Update posted by Red window (the patient)

So in response to a phone call I received...

I don't feel any of my concerns were addressed, you see I don't have a great working memory so usually I record my calls to make sense of them and on this occasion I was called out of the blue and didn't have adequate time to respond, to what was being said.

I called back to clarify some things I have been told by different neurologists and this time I was recording what was said to solidify it in my mind and also to help me explain to my partner what is going on and the person I spoke to seemed to get their back up and hang up the phone on me.

I then put this along with the other things that have went on into a complaint to the Ayrshire and Arran complaints and received a letter that devastated me for a few weeks!

In the letter it was said that I used threatening language, and this I believe is to the detriment of my character and harmful to my mental well being!

I have this call recorded and it sickens me that someone in this position would say things which were not true!
