"Endoscopy cancelled following change of medication by GP"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

Written by Healthwatch Cornwall on behalf of the story provider :

First trip today for an endoscopy – appointment arranged by GP. Appointment at [x]pm which did not go ahead. Partner was taken off warfarin last week and put on a new drug. When they arrived at hospital today, the hospital believed they were still on warfarin. Patient had taken the new drug 24 hours before the appointment which they were not supposed to do but nobody had mentioned this. Patient did know they were not supposed to take the warfarin. The hospital said the endoscopy would have to be postponed and the patient now has to wait for an appointment. The endoscopy was meant to be within 2 weeks of the patients’ scan one week ago. The patient has been to Treliske many times but is disappointed today. They had travelled from Falmouth today and also had further appointment at another hospital later today.

Dear orange2018,

Thank you for sharing your story with us, please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you on here. I was sorry to read that there was a breakdown in communication with regards to your new tablets, thus meaning that your procedure was unable to go ahead, leaving you disappointed our services at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.

I am responding to you as a member of the Patient and Family Experience team but I will share your story with the team in Endoscopy so that they will be able to make improvements to the service and ensure this does not happen to any of our patients in the future.

Best wishes,

Jess
