When Jenny was born at 38 weeks, she failed to gain weight, had cold hands and feet, and was very breathless. After 4 weeks, she was diagnosed with atrioventricular septal defect and ventricular septal defect which hadn’t been detected during pregnancy.
At 15 weeks old, Jenny had surgery to close her AVSD, VSD and correct her deformed valve.
Jenny has had amazing care by the consultant who operated on her heart and intensive care nurses in PICU, the care was outstanding.
The consultant and anaesthetist put me at ease before surgery, during and after. These people do not get the recognition they deserve. Jenny has spent 11 out of the 18 weeks in the freeman hospital and the care has been outstanding.
It has been a very stressful and emotional time, however, the help and support received from all hospital staff has been incredible and I would not have got through it without the continuous love, care and attention they have shown throughout our heart journey.
Ward 23 has been amazing over our 2 stays from the diagnosis in August 2018 and this long stay September to November for her surgery and feeding problems.
Everyone has been fantastic and i can not put into words how grateful i am for the support and care shown to our family.
Ward 23 ward sister has accommodated my own disability whilst i have been staying on the ward with Jenny.
The cleaning is impeccable on the ward and the cleaner keeps her standards very high plus she is a lovely friendly lady.
The specialist cardiologist had to put a cannula in Jenny's head to deliver IV fluids when he shaved her hair to get the cannula in he kept the hair for me as a reminder of her first hair cut. This was absolutely lovely and thoughtful.
Thanks to all of ward 23 for your care and support.
