I attended the York Centre on Friday at approx 3.30pm for a weight bearing x ray of my ankle.
I was asked to take a seat in the waiting area for an x ray.
Someone came out of an x ray room and asked me to come in.
They said I hadn't got changed. I replied by saying that I had been asked to take a seat.
I was given a gown to change into as my trousers were very narrow and couldn’t be rolled up above my ankle.
I had a thick jumper on and couldn’t get the gown over the top , so I took my jumper off and trousers and put on the very long gown.
I returned to the x ray room after approx 4 minutes.
I was greeted by same person (who I assumed was the radiographer) who told me I'd taken too long.
I answered politely saying that “if I had been asked to get changed on arrival, that may have saved some time.”
I was told to get on the x ray table........I did.
They took the picture and said my GP would receive the report in about a week.
I then mentioned that my GP had asked for a weight bearing x ray.
This radiographer looked at the paperwork and said they'd have to set up now for a weight bearing one.
I was not impressed with this member of staff by now and their irritated manner.
They moved a set of steps and told me to climb onto the top step onto a piece of blue polystyrene type pad.
I positioned my foot putting my weight onto the blue pad.
I have had an x ray at the York Centre before although some years ago and was treated politely.
I have used the phlebotomy department also and been treated with politeness and dignity.
On this occasion, I left the x ray department upset and despondent as I was NOT treated in a nice way and had absolutely no confidence in the radiographer.
I am unsure as to quality of the films, but I was not confident that they are ok.
I am a Health Professional, who is very disappointed in the way that I was treated.
Politeness costs nothing and I felt that I had received a substandard service and felt demoralised throughout my time 8n the x ray room.
I am writing this as I would like to make sure that an elderly person is prevented from being treated in the same way..
"A recent x ray at the York Centre."
