"Saving my Kidney Transplant"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Endoscopy Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Neurology (Brain, Spinal and Nerves) Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Radiology (X-rays and Scans) Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Renal Medicine (Kidney) Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Urology (Bladder and Urinary problems)

(as the patient),

The feeling of loosing my transplant after being lucky to get it just over four and a half years ago is quite overwhelming.  Just when things are on an even keel and you think everything is ok trying to get back in to some sort of normality.  Their was signs of infection so blood taken and rejection was on the cards  a hard thing for anyone to try and deal with.  My medical history is extremely complex and has been challenging to say the least for the dedicated doctors , nurses in fact the whole medical team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

This episode all started in May this year  my walking had been getting quite erratic & the signs of infection were apparent. Then I was admitted to ward 108 Renal to keep a close eye on after a period of time I couldn’t walk at all & was bed bound. At this point I was transferred to  205 Neuro Sciences . As the infection took a hold I could not fight gravity lifting my legs of the bed I  feared the worst , I was tested for just about everything they thought it could of been and probably a lot more besides. The big break through came after one of my meds were stopped as a result  a week later I was getting some feeling back in my feet , legs  very slowly . Over the next weeks , months I had been able to learn to walk with the aid of various devices and at this point I am still very slow getting about with the aids I have been given . After I left  Nuro I went up to Woodend Nuro Rehabation  for physio & Occupational therapy’s  then eventually home . Quite a large learning curve  in one way or another .

A very big Thank you to everyone that helped me .  My neighbor and a good friend for looking after my cat  in my hour of need , especially  my Mum & dad  for the support and care they allways give .  X x x

Update posted by NHS life saver (the patient)

Well thank you for your response Fiona Roberts I had never used this service before but found it very good to share my story. Unfortunately I am a patient again and having more kidney problems of rejection so going through it again. All the staff in ARI ward 108 renal are especially dedicated and focused on patient care, nothing is too much trouble . The doctors , nurses keep you informed all the time about your progress. Which I find helps a lot when dealing with this unfortunate situation .
