"Don’t bother making an appointment time"

About: The Dunstan Partnership

Had an appointment set for first thing in the morning so that I could go to work straight after as I had a client meeting.

Arrived and it said there was a 22 minute wait, which was annoying but acceptable. Kept waiting and waiting and it had been 45 minutes at this point. Checked with reception on how much longer it would take and I was told I was next to be seen. The previous patient walks out after another 10 mins, and I get up ready to go in just for someone else whose appointment was after mine get called to go in! I had already waited for an hour at this point and was already stressed and anxious about being late for work. So I had to leave without seeing the nurse as I had to catch a train to work, having already missed the first train.

I expect some waiting time but over an hour is ridiculous. By the time I got to work it was almost 12 and I lost half a day of pay. I have no problem with the staff or doctors (they’re really nice) but the practice needs to realise that people have life commitments - work, children, school, other appointments etc and it’s really unfair to wait for over an hour to be seen when you’re ill. It wasn’t a walk in, I had an actual appointment time.

Please accept our sincere apologies for what must have been a frustrating experience for you and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We try to ensure that patient appointments run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

However, there are times when very ill patients take up more time than planned and our usual service is disrupted.

This cannot always be avoided.

We do try to make sure that patients are always kept fully informed when this happens and you mention that you were advised by the receptionist that you were the next patient to be called in.

Please could you contact the Practice Manager who will glady investigate this incident, which, without your name, we cannot do at present.
