I rang Whiston A&E to ask if I should attend with suspected iritis. They explained that although they did not have an ophthalmologist on site, I should attend and if necessary they would call one or refer for a next day appointment. I attended, the nurse practioner was excellent and the doctor kindly made the necessary referral. I was seen the next day at St Helens hospital.
The consultant advised that the prompt action meant that hopefully my course of treatment will be shorter. I know that iritis isn't life threatening but a referral from my gp would have been far to slow. Thank you Whiston for ensuring I was seen the next day.
