"Late diagnosis of Hep C"

About: Woodland View / Addiction Service (Ward 5)

(as a service user),

I went for an ecg and whilst I was there the nurse asked me if I would like to be tested for hep c, I said -yeah, why not.  I took the test (a mouth swab) and the results came back a few minutes later that I was anti-body positive. Then when they went to log the results on the computer they asked -have you been tested before?” I said -yes, you done one around 2 years ago, they  said -I’m sorry to tell you, you are hep c positive and have been since your last test 2 years ago. I felt shocked and angry that this was missed then I spoke to a friend who’s results were also missed, she had to phone and ask for the results.

I could’ve passed this on the numerous people and I have been worried sick about this. I want to prevent this happening again.

This could be life threatening.

Dear aquilaet59

Thank you for taking the time to share your post on Care Opinion. I am sorry to hear about your current situation and you recent experience of our health service and can’t begin to imagine how you are feeling at this time. It is important that you receive the right support at this time.

Without your name or contact details it is not possible to respond specifically to the experience you describe as we have no way of looking back through our records to see what may have gone wrong. As such, I have spoken to our North Ayrshire Addiction Service Manager, Anne Lee, who is very keen to help in any way possible. Anne has asked me to encourage you to contact her on 01294 476000. I would be grateful if you would consider contacting Anne as soon as possible.
