During the happiest and most challenging times of my life (pregnancy, long and stressful labour and emergency section I have birth to a long, big baby boy who was too tired do feed after all we’ve been trough during 2 days of labour, morphine, emergency section, distress for both of us...he lost 12% of his birth weight and was loosing even more when I was advised to top up with formula.
I knew it would be the end of breastfeeding if I started to combination feeding 3 days after my son was born. Luckily, I was given breast feeding support group contact details and Collete came to see me what seemed as soon as I called them. Friendly, knowledgeable, experienced, wonderful human being who helped me out during times of need and continued to offer support and help if and when needed. I had the willpower, but it was thanks to her that I exclusively breastfed for 6 months and am continuing to breastfeed my now 9 month old son. The midwifes in the hospital weren’t able to offer the advice and support necessary, but this project the NHS and Scotland government have in place is amazing, brilliant and very necessary in the future for breastfeeding women and moms who wish to do so in the future.
Thank you breastfeeding support programme, thanks to those who have recognised and are funding this programme, but most of all, thank you Collet for all your hard work and support throughout this amazing adventure.
