"6-Week Check Up with the Consultants in..."

The appointment was an hour late and this was not clear until I was taken into Outpatients and sat down outside the relevant door. What also then became clear was that despite a two-hour train journey I was not due to see the consultant who had performed my hip replacement. The nurse advised me to see the Registrar first and he checked my gait, the pulse in my foot and the strength of my calf muscle. He advised me of a further appointment in 4 months' time with X-rays. He courteously asked if I was satisfied with that but I then asked him if I might see the Consultant. This was effected sooner than anticipated. It was good to see my hip replacement specialist again and he listened to my progress report and was frank about the challenge of having to work obliquely into the hip in the operating theatre. My friend was allowed to accompany me in Outpatients for my meeting with the Consultant instead of having to wait outside for me, granted an hour's delay. I am grateful to both the nurses and consultants for their time and flexibility, accommodating my specific request to see the Consultant, and general advice received.
