I have worked for the NHS for 45yrs and myself had 8 children. I was deeply concerned that when my granddaughter gave birth over a week ago she was discharged the next day having had a difficult birth, epidural and forceps, (which is not the issue) the fact that no midwife to this day has been to the house to check on both her and the baby. on day 5 she had to take the baby to the local clinic for his heel test, fortunately my daughter was able to drive her there. my younger daughter delivered a baby in June this year in William Harvey hospital kent. the midwife was on her doorstep the following morning after discharge and continued to monitor her over the next few days. I have never known a patient let alone a young new mother being sent home with no after care, checking mother and baby are ok. the baby had a sticky eye from day 1 which was bathed but was not looked at until day 5. I find this rather embarrassing as I work for this trust CUH
