"Not impressed"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital / Cardiology

My partner was diagnosed 11 weeks ago as needing triple heart bypass and valve replacement and told waiting list 8 to 10 weeks. During that time he phoned just twice to see when he was likely to be admitted because of family commitments. The lady who dealt with him on both occasions was extremely rude and wanted to know why we were bothering her! We received a letter that he would be admitted on 8th October and told he should stop his meds. He phoned as requested at midday on 8th October to make sure bed was available. The ward had never heard of him. Apparently on further investigation he should have been advised that his operation had been cancelled. He wasn't. He was then told 'they could probably fit him in on 29 October'. The stress this has caused is immeasurable. We are not talking about an in growing toenail but major surgery. My partner has never been in hospital before apart from a broken nose. He is understandably terrified and the way he has been treated so far fills us with dread. We have had a couple of excuses such as the consultant needs to do more sessions and today bed blocking. His new date if it happens will be 14 weeks waiting. Delighted the money was found for a helipad.
