"Lack of treatment from max fax led to further problems"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Accident & Emergency Ninewells Hospital / Oral Surgery & Medicine

(as the patient),

I was seriously assaulted whilst having braces on my teeth.i was punched in the face knocking my front four top teeth out.i attended ninewells hospital A & E department and was told max fax (maxofacial) would have to look at my injuries.unfortunately a nurse told me max fax said over the phone they won't look at me because they don't deal with braces.I'd need to go home and make an appointment with kingscross hospital the next day.i felt extremely disappointed and upset as I knew time was of the essence to save my teeth.i now need a bone graph and implants fitted or simply have false teeth made which I really don't want.i spoke to another medical professional who used to work at max fax who said they had never heard of them not dealing with braces before.

I feel i have been failed and possibly my present situation could've been alot different if max fax were proactive and took the time to look at my injuries.am I right to feel like this?

Dear "DShann"

Thank you for sharing your experience. On behalf of the Surgical Directorate I would like to extend my apologies that we have not met your expectations. We are very sorry if we have let you down.

Issues with braces can be managed by a number of Oral Health Professionals dependent upon an individual's clinical presentation and the extent of the problem.

I regret that without detail of your braces problem and how it has been managed I am unable to give you a personalised response, however if you would like to contact our Feedback Team directly we would be very happy to investigate this for you.

Our Feedback Team can be contacted by telephone on 0800 027 5507 (freephone) or via email to feedback.tayside@nhs.net
