"phone charges"

About: WestMARC (West of Scotland Mobility and Rehabilitation Centre)

(as a service user),

I had to phone Westmarc a few weeks ago. The member of staff I spoke to was rather abrupt however my main concern is that I was charged over £2 for the call.

Why does Westmarc have a premium rate phone line?

Why are people being charged to contact an NHS dept?

Where is this money going?

Dear Worried and disappointed

Thank you very much for posting your story on Care Opinion.

I would like to firstly apologise that you have felt the need to complain. Originally when the service was set up the 0844 number (a service number which is a low rate number) was used to ensure that all Patients regardless of location were able to access the service equitably. As time has progressed most people use their mobile phones to contact us and we have been encouraging patients to use the 0141 number to access WestMARC services. The number is 0141 201 2624, this will take you through to the same team.

We are currently working with our telephony team to find an alternative solution and following your feedback we will ensure that we add reference to the 0141 number on our website.

Kind Regards

Heather McIntosh

Operational Services Manager
