"Irregular and rapid heart beat."

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I have had an irregular and rapid heart beat for past eight days after an episode of palpitations. I suffer from anxiety and have had episodes of palpitations previously and these usually settle after a short period. However this has not settled and I am more anxious in case there is something serious wrong. I attended my GP and was told the first available apt was in two weeks time. I explained my symptoms and was told to attend A& E if these got any worse or I felt unwell. I do not think this is acceptable. I am more anxious every day which does not help. I feel very let down by my GP surgery and feel there should be emergency apt available for situations like this.

Dear dougs57,

I am sorry to hear of the delay in receiving a GP appointment and not being offered an emergency appointment within your surgery. I am happy to have a discussion with you around this, I can be contacted on 01698 858 321 or by email patientaffairs.primarycare@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Please note NHS 24 can also be contacted by dialling 111 after 6pm.

Look forward to hearing from you.
