"My journey out of depression"

About: Ealing IAPT

(as a service user),

I came to Ealing IAPT having really given up on my life and my body, mind, and family were in real turmoil. My gp had prescribed antidepressants and i was determined to get off them and try something else.

I was very fortunate to land myself safely in this service. My rocking ship was broken and full of holes and trauma. I had just six sessions with Safarina and I was determined to take on every piece of advice she gave me and I cross the ocean of life in a repaired ship.

Initially, it was very hard to talk about what I had gone through but slowly and surely I began to let go of things that had made my life heavy and traumatic. Safarina was an amazing therapist. She was as determined as I to lift me out of my pit which was dark and empty and often hopeless. I do not know what happened but the time i spent with her was very healing and helpful.  I was lost and had given up a well-paying job and felt like i just could not cope any longer. I wanted to run away from life but Safarina helped me find a way to climb up and lift my head up high.

I am now setting up my own community charity project and have begun working for myself. I am looking after myself and my children and am trying my best to smile and face life instead of run away from it. It feels amazing. I am very grateful to the Ealing Iapt service as it has not only assisted in changing my life but all the people that are attached to me.

I have a new drive and have been given the opportunity to really strive again and i am excited about the mindfulness course that the service offers and am hopeful to attend it in November.

There are many services out there to help people and i am so grateful that this was given to me but more grateful that I had Safarina as my therapist. It really makes a difference in the quality and commitment and focus that the person who is helping you holds themselves.

Thank you for what you have done for me and my family and i will never forget the amazing experiences and the tips i was given to help myself.

Hello Warrior princess

What a heartfelt story you have taken the time to share with us on Care Opinion. You described a time of great turmoil in your life. It sounds like you have been trying to address these difficulties for some time.

Your story mentioned giving up on many areas in your life, I am so pleased to hear how much Safarina helped you change your outlook to life using CBT techniques along side her encouragement and commitment. I am sure Safarina will be delighted to know how well you are doing, and the positive plans you have for the future.

We hope many reading this story will take courage and take the first step regarding therapy options

On behalf of all at Ealing IAPT we wish you all the very best also good luck with your up and coming mindfulness course, community project and return to work.
