(as the patient),

I gave birth to my 3rd child in November 2017, I had a little girl.

My girl came out perfectly but then things went from bad to worse. My midwife Toni did a great job in getting my daughter out but the placenta got stuck and I was losing blood, lots of blood, I lost nearly 5 litres of blood. They got the placenta out not long after they wheeled me in the operating room but they then had the job of getting my uterus to contract back. The doctors  and midwives were trying everything to stop the bleeding and keep me calm.

They later put me to sleep as things were getting to much of a panic as I literally lay there with no feelings in my legs and looking at the lights on the ceiling repeatedly saying "I'm guna die, I'm guna die" when they tried every drug and procedure under the sun the contract my uterus and it didn't work they then came to the difficult decision of performing an emergency hysterectomy.

As you can imagine I was devastated by this news when I come round but then that was the end of it. I then started getting blood clots in my legs and my feet were turning purple, black & white, painful was an absolute understatement, I was in tears for days and the hospital almost very nearly cut some of my toes off as they tried everything to stop the clotting but nothing was working and I was getting worse by the hour. Doctors were coming from different areas to try and figure out what to do and I almost got transfered to another hospital but then luckily they received information from another hospital of a regime to try on me which was risky as it was a blood thinning regime and I had just had a hysterectomy so I was at risk of then bleeding out but they had no choice. Luckily for me it went well and it stopped the clotting, I was on intensive care unit for 6 days and then transtarred to maternity ward where I was reunited with my daughter.

I spent another week of that ward before finally being sent home to enjoy Christmas. My recovery is improving over time but after the ordeal I was suffering major nerve damage (so painful) but after nearly 11 months the nerve damage is easing nicely now. Since November last year I have been on an emotional roller coaster that I can't seem to get off. My mood is slowly improving and I'm emotionally getting there which is to be expected but I'm lucky to be here and I am now enjoying my life and have been inspired to take a career in midwifery which I am now on the path to the rest of my life.

A massive Thank you to Tameside Hospital on saving my life not only with my daughter but my other 2 sons also (story for another time) you are absolutely amazing in the care you have for your patients and I for 1 would not be here now if it wasn't for this Hospital. I am forever in their debt!

Thanks

Xxxx
