"Acute care - Australians on holiday"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / General medicine

(as a service user),

Whilst on holidays in St Austell, I called the NHS 111 line, and was advised to take my husband to a doctor within 6hrs. 7hrs later we got an appt in St Austell and Dr Moore referred my husband to SDEC with suspected discitis after experiencing fevers and severe pain.

From the minute we arrived we felt cared for and attended to by a warm friendly team of people. They listened with empathy, were efficient, dealt with the paperwork required when international visitors present themselves, and at no time were we made to feel in any way a bother. The camaraderie amongst the team was palpable and a pleasure to witness.

Dear Floch,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your story. I am sorry to read that you were unfortunate enough to have to visit the Royal Cornwall Hospital whilst on holiday in Cornwall, but I am glad to see that you and your husband felt well cared for by friendly staff. It is lovely to read that you witnessed our staff in SDEC working well together as a team.

I am replying to you as a member of the Patient and Family Experience Team, but I will ensure that I share your story with the relevant team members in SDEC, I'm sure they will love to read it, just as I have.

I hope that your husband is making a full recovery following your visit to our hospital.

Kindest regards,

Jess

Thanks Jess. Unfortunately for us, he is STILL in the hospital- SAL ward staff are now looking after him - another team of caring people. Hopefully we will get home to Australia soon.
