"Given drugs on an empty stomach"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Accident and emergency Heartlands Hospital / General surgery

(as a service user),

The treatment I received was worse than appalling. I was starved and mistreated for 2.5 days. Given drugs on an empty stomach which made me hallucinate, given inaccurate information, I formed my own diagnosis as gastroenteritis followed by bowel blockage as an effect of the drugs given to me on an empty stomach.

I was left in agony for hours with no monitoring or proper assessment. I believe I was starved unnecessarily.

To top things off there was a breach of personal data as they put the wrong notes in my room and put my notes somewhere else.

The majority of my notes were inaccurate and stated checks had been done when they hadn’t. I am making a major complaint.

I am very sorry to learn of your experience whilst you were an inpatient under the care of our Trust and the impression that it has left.

If you would be willing to provide further details of the particular ward, together with your name, address and date of birth, as a Trust, we would welcome the opportunity to review your care.

You can do this by contacting a member of the Patient Services Team on 0121 424 0808 or you can email your concerns to bhs-tr.Complaints-ConcernsandCompliments@nhs.net who can then take the necessary action.

If you do contact our team, can I please ask you to advise the member of staff that you are responding to your Care Opinion / NHS Choices Posting.

Please be aware that we would require a patient’s written or verbal consent for information to be shared with a family member.

Kind regards

Patient Experience Team
