"Delay in discharge"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

My husband was recently admitted to QMC in Nottingham via ED.

Whilst his medical care was faultless throughout, the management of his medication was atrocious, with pharmacy in particular being conspicuous by their absence and understanding.

Also, he waited 18 hours between being told he could go home and actually going home. This was due to a combination of loss of discharge papers and waiting for pharmacy (again!)

There is massive focus at the moment on patient pathway and efficiency in the discharging process to free beds for acute admissions and yet my husband was blocking a bed he didn't need because of medication and administration issues.

I cant believe an acute Trust such as NUH has no 24/7 pharmacy service. This needs sorting!
