What could be improved

The time from one step of the assessment to the next could have been shortened by a significant margin.

Tasks carried out by a GP in primary care less than 10 minutes before arrival at the unit did not need repeating but were anyway.

Staff should read the notes before speaking to patients. It is very frustrating to repeat the same answers to the same questions over and over again to different staff who have all the information written down in the notes they have in their hands.

There was little or no communication from staff as to how long each step might take or what was going to happen next.

Effectively we sat in a room for about 8 hours with interaction of approximately 20 minutes with staff and the rest of the time we were expected to sit quietly and do nothing.

Towards the end of the visit a doctor asked my daughter for what would have been a third urine sample because they were unsure whether the entry on the documents they had were from a sample taken by the primary care GP at 13:00 or from the sample given at about 19:00.

Anything else?

The assessment area was not particularly busy (perhaps 6 cases at any one time) there were only 4 assessment beds. Staff seemed to avoid contact with patents were necessary.. My thirteen year old daughter commented that she wouldn't want to go to the hospital or doctors again.
