"Outstanding A&E and Acute Medical Unit"

About: Fairfield General Hospital / Accident and emergency

My Father was admitted by the Emergency Services the day after Bank Holiday Monday. The team in A&E were efficient, compassionate and professional. The nurses, Consultant A&E physician in charge and on Call medics gave us great reassurance and communicated with us throughout the RESUS process. Their efforts were noticeably genuine and sincere. We felt how much they cared.

The same on Ward 7 (previously named Ward 6) in the Acute Medical Unit. The night Staff allowed me to stay and were very attentive to my and my Father’s needs throughout the night, especially one nurse - you know who you are. The daytime team of nurses were fantastic too.

Especially the Senior male nurse who helped my Father (91yo) safely out of bed and into the waiting car outside with such gentle consideration, patience and good humour

As for the Consultant Geriatrician, I have only positive words of appreciation for his extremely sensitive and compassionate examination and overview of my Father’s condition and diagnosis. My Father was extremely comfortable and relaxed in his hands despite his dementia, lack of sleep and illness. I appreciate you checked all his bloods, his head with a CT scan after the recent fall he had and looked at all his medical history extremely carefully; noting everything! Thank you!

We appreciate the thoroughness of the actions of the whole medical team including the radiologists who came together during an emotionally charged emergency day, night and day. You showed a warm, approachable and coherent standard of excellent care. My Father was happy to stay and reluctantly had to be eased out of his bed!

Also, he ate most of his lunch! A first! He enjoyed ALL of the pea soup starter, Most of the Corned beef hash and certainly his ice cream dessert.

Last but not least, the Hospital porters who do a fantastic job. The Happy porter who remembered us! Thank you. It touched me.
