"Communication skills"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult Mental Health Services - Community (County)

(as a carer),

My husband had to see the so called 'crisis' team and experienced what we felt was the most annoying,  self opinionated, overbearing member of staff.. They didn't bother waiting for my husband to finish talking and spoke over me constantly using medical language. I think it would be helpful if they knew how to speak to people who are not medically trained!!

The other staff we saw were not as bad but they spent a lot of time with him saying that he should distract himself, go for walks etc and self refer to other services.

We felt like they were there to trip us up and see if we were putting it on for him to have some time off work. I can assure you he was not!!

We do not think that it was helpful and it was our family and GP that eventually helped us to get him better and not them.

Dear Stara

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Crisis team on care opinion. All feedback is welcome and valued.

It seems that you and your husband's involvement with the Crisis team was unhelpful and disappointing in terms of how the staff communicated with you both and how the approaches to care and advice offered were not what you were both expecting.

I would like to discuss this with you in more detail as this will enable me to feedback directly to the staff involved about your experience. Please see my contact details below.

Kind regards

Ruth
